I’m Ananya Vahal and I'm a writer. My focus is in literary nonfiction, new media, and comic books. I love writing so much I try to explore every genre possible. Influences I was born in New Delhi, India and raised in three different countries. Growing up around the world exposed me to perspectives that most people never have the privilege of obtaining. It also forced me to learn about cultures and languages different from my own. The influence of these perspectives, which include the struggles of immigration and assimilation into foreign countries, can be seen in all my work from social media strategies to comic books and personal essays. The Sid Foundation When I was 26 years old, I lost my brother, Sid, to complications resulting from his double-lung transplant. He was 29 years old. One year later, in 2015, I started a nonprofit called The Sid Foundation to raise funds and awareness for lung transplant research. I continue to build this nonprofit to help progress lung transplant research, provide support for lung transplant patients, and to keep Sid’s memory alive. I use Lung Girl comics to educate the community about lung health through The Sid Foundation. Professional Background I earned my bachelor’s degree from The University of Georgia in English with a minor in Spanish in 2010. I earned my M.F.A. in Writing from SCAD in 2018. I'm a freelance writer, the Cofounder/Editor for Prime Vice Studios, and the President of The Sid Foundation Inc. I also love to teach writing to all ages, especially teens and adults. My mission is to use my writing to encourage racialized women to share their unique stories and join me in diversifying the literary world.
